Hi,
You say the Play:5 doesn't have a 3.55 input but both the first gen and 2nd gen do at least the ones I've owned do. Have we gone to a third gen Play:5 already that hasn't one?

It's not that big a surprise to me that Apple's Homepod at this point supports Apple Music so I guess if you are not an Apple Music subscriber and you don't want to use Airplay to use your iPhone and whatever app such as Spotify or simply the music app then it's definitely not for you. Mark, I get it that you have an iPod Nano which has been discontinued for years, we all know that Apple is no longer supporting the 3.5mm jack and that the Homepod is not really meant to be used with wires so that is just what Apple has decided to do and it's up to everybody to like it or not. If it is not what you want there are other options, keep in mind that even Sonos does not really support wired inputs on almost all their players any more, only one I think that has it is the Connect, but all the stand-alone speakers such as the Play 1, Play 3, Play 5 and the new Sonos 1 smart speaker don't have a 3.5mm input or an optical one for that matter. I guess wireless is just the way things are going and most of these companies assume you are using their ecosystem which in Apple's case means Apple Music. I for one wouldn't want to be without Apple Music. I don't actually listen to that much music any more, but my wife does so for us to have the family subscription just makes sense and while we could have a Spotify or Deezer subscription Apple Music is what we chose and it works great for us.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi. You guys realize the HomePod doesn’t even support Bluetooth
streaming, right? The only reason it has Bluetooth five hardware, is to enable speakerphone functionality. Yes, that might be coming in the future update, but we aren’t sure yet.

Agreed, but that's how the device he wants to use, is.
I accept if the socket isn't there now, it's not going to be.

So a cheap solution, or buy a different speaker which has it. I still have a JB JB, so not really bothered either way.

True, but why should I have to spend the time and the money buying
another gadget just because a ubiquitous audio feature is consciously
kept from these high end devices?

Bluetooth transmitter that takes 3.5mm jack. Quite cheap and common.

Hello Everyone,

I was really considering buying a HOmePod. However, as I am not
subscribed to Apple Music nor am I going to subscribe anytime soon,
I was hoping that the HomePod would have a 3.5mm jack so that I
could use it with non-apple and/or legacy hardware devices such as
my iPod Nanno. What a bummer that it does not have such a port.

Perhaps I'll wait until the next generation model in hopes that they
will permit legacy-device attachments.

Thoughts?

Mark
