I have heard some reports that updating to iOS 11.2.6 removes the battery
indicator for some users. I do not know if this issue refers to merely the
visual indicator or not.
It may be that, regardless of the visual icon, VoiceOver may continue to
read the battery level indicator.
So, if you have a non-iPhone 10, and you have already updated to iOS 11.2.6,
please let us know your experience as I do not plan to update until I can
confirm that this battery bug does not apply to VoiceOver users.
