Hi again, Anybody who read my first message can ignore it, I have solved the issue. After I posted the message it occurred to me that I should follow my own advice which often is to reboot the device. I turned my Apple Watch off and back on after a bit and now the time speaks again when I wake up the watch and autospeak works as expected.

I was hoping doing this and setting it up as a new device might make it a bit snappier since it seemed very sluggish lately when I opened apps like workout etc. It does seem it’s a bit more responsive, but when I pressed the digital crown before to wake it up it used to automatically announce the time, now it just makes a noise and doesn’t speak anything unless I touch or swipe. This includes an item which I set to auto speak, even that doesn’t speak when I press the digital crown. Any thought from all you Apple Watch experts?
