Do I type in the new e-mail even if it is already in my list of e-mails?

Go to settings, then tap on your name. it should take you to your iCloud settings. Scroll down to name, phone number, emails. Double tap. Flick until you hear the edit button, then select it. You want to scroll past all of your emails and phone numbers. There should be an add button. It will bring up an alert asking if you want to add an email address or a phone number, hit email. Type in the email address you want to add, and hit next. Once that’s done, you might have to hit the edit button again. After that, find your old Apple ID email, swipe down until you hear delete. Once you double tap, it will bring a popup that asks you to type in a new email address that you’ve just added. Type in the verification code that you were sent.
