I went into settings, general, keyboard, and double tapped on where it says keyboards 2, or it may have a different number if you have added other keyboards, once you are in your list of keyboards, which in my case was English and Emoji, I touched the Emoji and flicked up with one finger to delete and double tapped. Then, it cannot be selected when typing. HTH, Richard
