I'd suggest you listen to Jonathan Mosen's podcast The BlindSide from the time the iPhone X was released. He does a nice comparison of them.
Personally speaking, I would not pay $1,000 for a phone, especially one without a home button. But, that is just me. Yes, I use my phone almost more than I use my computer, nothing that small is going to have truly decent sound, it is rather, better sound for a very small device. If you want good sound, put the money into a good Bluetooth speaker system or headphones. But, that again is just me. Then again, if you are a visual user of the iPhone, you may want the larger screen the iPhone X gives you.
