I’m sure there is, but I don’t have time right now to search for it. Anyhow, apart from being a smartspeaker which supports Amazon Alexa at this point and other assistants such as Google Assistant and probably Cortana down the road it’s mostly the same as a Play 1.

Since I have 2 Sonos play3 speakers I am very tempted to buy a Sonos One to get airplay. I did a google search for the Sonos One user guide but as far as my internet issue allows me to go, I only find the .pdf document for the play1. Do you perhaps know if there is a .pdf guide for the Sonos One? Of course everybody is still waiting for Airplay 2 to actually make its first appearance, but here is what we can look forward to and what we can’t. If you have a new Play 5, Sonos 1 or Playbase (that is the one designed to be used like a Playbar except it also acts as the stand for your TV, e.g. you stand your TV on top of it) then you are in luck as those devices will support Airplay 2. If you only have a couple of Play 1, Play 3 or one of the old Play 5 or Connect/Connect Amp then you are out of luck. The good thing is that it only takes one of the players which support Airplay 2 to bring it to your entire system just as currently I have an Apple Airport Express hooked up to just one of my Connects, I can Airplay to this Airport Express but instead of playing it on the Connect which it is connected to I can play it on any of my Sonos players. This of course is because the Airport Express is simply a line-in source. I think if you, for example, had a Play 5 but in other rooms you only had Play 1 or Play 3 units you can Airplay directly to the Play 5, but then I think you would need to group the other players with it. Of course that is only my assumption because they sort of phrase it that way in their announcement, I guess we won’t really know how exactly it will work until it is available. I am almost tempted to go and buy a new Play 5 or a Sonos 1 which of course is much cheaper, but I think I will sit this one out until Airplay 2 is actually available, who knows, maybe it won’t come until iOS 12 in the fall and by then Sonos might have announced more smart speakers like a Sonos 3 or Sonos 5 or maybe something altogether different. Anyhow, here are the highlights from that email I received: AirPlay 2 coming this year AirPlay to select Sonos speakers. AirPlay the sound from your iPhone, iPad or Mac straight to Sonos One, Play:5 and Playbase. AirPlay to any speaker with Sonos One. Group any Sonos speaker with a compatible player to unlock AirPlay for your entire system. Video on your iPhone. Sound on Sonos. Watch a video on any Apple device and listen to the sound on Sonos in perfect sync. Binge Netflix on your iPad and enjoy the sound from Play:5. Watch a YouTube video on your iPhone and listen out loud with Sonos One. “Hey Siri, play Beats 1 radio in the kitchen.” Apple Music listeners can use Siri to play and control music on AirPlay-compatible Sonos speakers. Ask Siri to play Apple Music using your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch. Add your AirPlay-compatible speaker to the Apple Home app to get started.
