These Echo's are a revelation in our world as VoiceOver was in phones. Indeed, talking calculators will go to the wall next, since Echo can do more of that than any previous calculator so far, let alone a talking one. E.g: turning iOs calculator to landscape for scientific functions, still doesn't offer a cube root function. ok, getting a bit OT and your dad might not be interested, but ya never know! However, their are a lot of radio aps you can get for the echo that come to no extra cost, like radio player.
