I had another try with Google re what an astrovolcano was, but my second search
was as unsuccessful as my first, so I tried Katmai, which is the name of this
supposed fiery feature, but still no use of the word astrovolcano came back.
However, I was told that Katmai was a volcanic region: an observation from JB:
akin to Yellowstone I would surmise: in which was a bear/bison preservation
area.
The mention of bison surprised me as I didn't think that they were to be found
as far north as that, or maybe Katmai is in southern Alaska and the bison,
like, I believe, the karibou migrate southward into the balmy climes of
British Columbia for the winter when the bears are snoozing! Do male bears
snooze the winter away or is it only the pregnant females who do that?
And returning, briefly, to astrovolcanos, a friend of mine, who, it has to be
owned is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, might have had something when
she said that the word made her think that a volcano had fallen out of the sky!
Now could it be that that area was struck by an asteroid, and a volcano grew
from the strike zone?

Just a thought here Jewel; considering that a volcano is a burst of steam,
earth and molten lava spewing forth I should think (only presuming here now)
that an astro volcano would be a burst of some type of cosmic activity. Was
the desired answer “Northern Lights” or “Aurora Borealis?"

This would be a burst of light from the outer limits - at least that’s what I
suppose. ;-)

Last night when filling in an April 2013 puzzle, I came across the clue
"Alaskan astrovolcano":
the identity of which is not my question, but, actually how does an
astrovolcano differ from an
ordinary, common and garden, run of the mill, everyday volcano?
I made the enquiry of Google but the help that I got from that worldwide
fountain of knowledge could
have covered the head of a pin with the majority of it still being visible!
