Speaking from listening to family members that own so-called smart
refridgerators, DON'T, EVER, BUY, ONE! If the least little thing screws up
in the computerized system it's not a easy fix! Parts in many cases aren't
in stock, much like phone tech support the technicians in many cases aren't
sufficiently trained, and depending on the manufacturer getting an
appointment before all your food goes bad can be a nightmare within itself.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi Sarah,

I don’t have one, but I also have looked at various smart appliances
especially when it came ot replacing my washer and dryer. However, my
conclusion at this point is that there is nothing out there which uses a
standard I would be happy with, every year now for the last 5 years or so
companies show stuff off at CES and then nothing much makes it to market.

Also, when it comes to a fridge I probably wouldn’t even worry about it, I
have seen fridges online which supposedly scan items as you put them in and
you can see an inventory in the app, get reminders about expiry dates and so
on, some have bluetooth speakers built into the door and for the most part
to me these sound like gimmicks which will not be very useful in real life.
A fridge should keep my stuff cold and while you can adjust temperature
settings, it is usually not something you do a lot once it is set where you
want it. It is not like a stove or a washer which you have to use all the
time and where an accessible way to select programs and so on would be
really useful. Most likely you would pay extra for any smart features on a
fridge and then again anything like inventory or expiry dates only works if
you take the time to make sure it is entered. There are plenty of apps out
there where if you wanted to keep track of your fridge inventory you could
do this and in the process probably keep track of your freezer inventory and
other food stuff you may have in your cabinets. Just my 2 cents worth, but a
smart fridge is probably the last smart item I’d consider.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi all:

My fridge crashed. I was looking at the smart fridges. Anyone have one? Are
the apps accessible?
