If you want to just try it out you can download it for free and learn how to type with it, it is a bit of a learning curve so if you get it, try it once and find it's not working for you then you are probably not giving it enough time. The fact is that is may not work for everybody, but it does work for a lot of people so you need to practice. If you pay the 99 cent a month subscription price you can add it as a third party keyboard in Settings > General > Keyboards and access it from pretty much any edit field system wide, the free version requires you to open the app, then you can type your text and copy it to the clipboard or send it to an app like mail or messages. Of course as is always the case some people complain that a buck a month is just outrageous and too much and why can't they just pay $2 or $3 once and get the use of it for a lifetime. Of course this is primarily geared towards the visually impaired so it's a smaller market and the couple who is spending countless hours having developed it and making it better are probably not independently wealthy where they can do this out of the goodness of their hearts and they appreciate a few thousands of Dollars of income for their effort. I mean, really, do people really expect to have a haircut or go out for dinner and it should be free? Or maybe they can pay their hair dresser $50 once and it's good for the next 5 years? Fleksy which came years ago and which is what Flicktype is based on cost I think up to $15 a tone point and people paid it, then it went free and of course some of those who paid complaint about how unfair the world is, then Fleksy realized that if they also made their keyboard appealing to sighted users it is much better and soon enough the Fleksy experience for blind users went down the drain. Now kost and his wife Ashely who were part of the original Fleksy team have released Flicktype and hopefully the fact that many of us who appreciate it do pay them a buck a month means that Flicktype will stick around for many years to come and that it will get even better as it already is. I for one don't even use it that much because when it comes to straight forward text entry I still think dictation is faster and easier for me, but I do use it from time to time when I am somewhere I can't just babble on about something and even for the little bit I use it I am glad to pay my $1.35 canadian.
