You can do that if you buy a ten-dollar splitter cable that has a Lightning male connector on one end, and two wires coming out of it, one terminating in a female 3.5mm three-conductor stereo ear/headphone socket and the other in a female lightning connector into which a charger can be plugged. The ear/headphone socket actually appears to iOS as a separate audio device, not just a breakout connector. You can verify this by connecting the adapter and ear/headphones, then looking at the list of audio devices. Works great on my 8 Plus .

It's true Apple won't be bringing back the head phone jack, but that's
no reason to just put up with the inconveniences of not having it for
another year. Also, depending on how you use your phone, there could be
more inconveniences to giving up the head phone jack then just losing
the ability to charge your phone while using the head phone jack.

Yes, but it’s not like the 3.5mm headphone jack is coming back so

Good point, thought, Julian, about asking what the upgrade cost is to
an iPhone 8, if it is $100 or even $200 (Mich is in Canada) then
selling his iPhone 6 will probably cover most of that cost and at
least then he has the ability to use wireless charging should he ever
want to use a headphone while the phone is charging. I know there are
the splitters from Belkin, but they cost as much as a couple of
wireless charging mats from Amazon.

Good point, I keep forgetting about Apple’s decision to remove the 3.5
plug.

One of the reasons, besides liking the size, why I will stick with my
SE as long as possible.

Hi Mitch,

I think the most important question you need to ask yourself is, can
you live without the 3.5 mm headphone jack. You will definitely lose
that by going to the seven. If you’re happy with the way things are,
maybe you should just sit it out for this year. If you feel like you
want to upgrade, while this is not a bad offer, I would personally ask
how much more they would charge to go to the eighth instead of the seven.
