And attention getting is exactly what it is supposed to be.
They did this here in Canada a couple of month ago, but in two stages. I think
Ontario Quebec and the maritime provinces were first and then a couple of days
later it was in the prairie and western provinces and the northern territories.
I already forgot exactly what it sounded like, but it was some sort of loud
beeping.

Subject: Crazy afternoon on Thursday

the first national government alert test will be conducted this Thursday
afternoon at 2:18 Eastern time. this means that all capable cell phones
will receive this test if they are turned on and connected to a cell
tower. You can't opt out of these alerts and they go off even if your
phone is on silent from what I read. this would be crazy if you're in a
crowded public place and everyone's cell phone goes off at the same
time. I've been in Walmart when Amber alerts would go off and it can get
loud. They say this is going to be a different sound, so I'm curious to
see what it's going to sound like. Whatever it is I'm sure it will be
attention getting.
