Push is supported as of iOS 11, here are instructions from a Lifewire.com article, note the last line of comment after point 10:
Set Up Free Gmail Push in iPhone Mail App 1. Tap Settings on your iPhone Home screen. 2. Select Accounts & Passwords 3. Tap Add Account on the Accounts & Passwords screen. 4. Select Google from the options presented to you. 5. Enter your Gmail address (or phone number) in the field provided. Tap Next. 6. Enter your Gmail password in the field provided. Tap Next. 7. Indicate which Gmail folders you want to have pushed to iPhone Mail. 8. Return to the Accounts & Passwords screen and tap Push next to Fetch New Data. 9. Confirm that the Exchange account says Push or Fetch next to it. 10. At the bottom of the same screen, click Automatically in the Fetch section to receive the email sent to your email account as quickly as possible. Note: iOS versions earlier than iOS 11 did not have the Automatically option. You had to select from the other options, the shortest of which was Every 15 Minutes. Push does not work with gmail accounts when using the iOS stock mail client. That was for sure the case on iOS 11.4.1 but I've not tried on iOS 12 since I prefer the gmail app over the stock iOS mail app anyway. Push works as expected when using the gmail app. On Thu, 20 Sep 2018 at 06:30, Sieghard Weitzel <[email protected]> wrote: > > I was under the impression that at this point and maybe at some point a year > or two ago push is now supported for gmail. > I assume previously it had to do with the IMAP protocol which gmail uses, > Outlook uses Microsoft's Exchange Active Sync and as far as I know that is > also behind iCloud email. > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Maria > Reyes > Sent: Wednesday, September 19, 2018 4:36 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Gmail and push? > > Hi all, > > I am wondering why Gmail doesn't support push on the iOS devices?
