You always had to tap the delete button at the top first, the one I call the Master Delete and which is one swipe left of the Refresh button. Previous to when this started you could then touch a book title, flick left once and tap delete and the book was gone. Now all you have to do is tap the second delete button, but it is not necessary to flick back to the book title first, once you activated the first delete button to the left of the book title just flick left once and double tap on that delete button and the book is gone. I usually use touch/explore instead of swiping to find the book I want to delete, once there I swipe left once to delete, double tap, then swipe left once more to the second delete button which now showed up and I double tap it.

After you get the Delete this item showing up in the app, you double tap it. This action moves you down to the book title. You then have to move back up to the Delete this book and click again to actually delete the book. I hope this makes sense!
