Okay, thanks for this. I’ll try again.

Subject: RE: Audible

Hi,

This Is not my experience. If I am in the cloud section of my library and
double tap a book it starts downloading, a few seconds into the download it
will say “Ready to Play”. This means enough has downloaded so that if you want
you can start playing the book, but it always requires another double tap for
me.

Also, as Richard pointed out, once you double tap on a book to start it playing
the library screen with all your titles goes away and you are on the now
playing screen or, as Audible calls it, the “Player” screen. In fact, along the
bottom of the screen you have 5 tabs as follows:

My Library

Discover

Player

Me

More

If you double tap on the “Player” tab which is in the middle and just above the
home button, the now playing or player screen opens, it has a Close button at
the very top left, the album/book art/title is on the upper half of the screen
and on the lower half you have your play/pause button in the middle, jump back
or forward to the left and right of it and at the very bottom where the tabs
are on the main screen you have from left to right the following controls:

Narration Speed, Chapters, Sleep Timer and Bookmarks

If you want to jump back or forward by chapter you can double tap on the book
title and the Jump back and jump forward buttons bedcome Chapter backward and
Chapter forward, double tap the title again and it goes back to jump forward
and jump backward by the default interval of 30 seconds.

The Audible app for the iPhone is fantastic and for many many years it is the
primary way I consume Audible books. Now that I have Amazon Echo devices and an
Audible Canada account using the Echo speakers around my house including my
Sonos Play 1 speakers also works great and I have occasionally used the Windows
10 Audible app, but why listen on my computer if I have an Echo Dot beside my
bed and either an Echo speaker or Sonos speaker in any other room of my house
where I can just tell it to play whichever book I want.

While any audio is playing, the two finger double tap will pause it whether it
is a book that is downloading in the background or not.

To Mark's point, if you select the device button, you will find the narration
speed, chapters, sleep timer and clip buttons along the bottom of the screen.
Once you have started a book playing.

Richard

Hello Susie,

I cannot speak to downloading books on a computer from Audible as I have never
done so.

However, when one downloads a title in iOS 12, on the latest version of the
Audible app, I believe it does, in fact, begin playback although I’m not
certain. The last time I downloaded a book on my phone, it was 4:00am and I
was half asleep. (smile).

What I can tell you is that, from my experience, full title playback is not
available until the book has completely downloaded to the device.

Which takes me to my next point, With the My Library tab selected, make certain
that you select the Device tab, located near the top right of the display,
instead of the Cloud tab, located near the upper left. Then, select a title to
be played and you should be good to go.

Subject: Audible

Evening everyone.

I’ve been an Audible subscriber for a decade now and love it. So of course I
put the Audible app on my phone.

Now when I try to download a book from Audible to the computer, I get a page
wanting me to download the app (which I already have) and install Audible
Manager (which I have.) No download of book to computer begins, as it has
before.

So then I thought, well, I’ll put the book on the phone. But once you hit the
button that starts the download, the book starts to play. Where are the
controls to make the speech speed up, control the volume, change chapters, and
all that happy stuff? And am I correct that the book continues to download from
some server somewhere as it plays? The only way I could stop the playback was
to cancel the download.

I tapped and swiped all over the screen during the playback to find controls,
and all I got was other phone stuff. Is there someplace where there are
commands for the Audible app? Have I now forever lost the ability to download
to the computer if I so choose?

If this is too far off-topic, humble apologies, and maybe somebody can contact
me off-list:

sstagebe...@gmail.com

Thanks.

Susie
