I am not sure, but if it has been a long time you may have 2-step verification
set up which is slightly different from 2-factor authentication.

Read the below Apple support article, it seems that if you had 2-step
verification that you may have automatically been upgraded to 2-factor
authentication when you started using iOS 11, but I'd follow the steps outlined
to check this and make sure.

If you are at all worried and if 2-factor authentication is what is indeed
turned on you can always turn this off temporarily and once you have your new
iPhone all set up turn it backon.

Switch from two-step verification to two-factor
authentication<https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT207198>

Sieghard

HI Mary,

Go to settings then double tap on your name. then flick to security and
password and double tap. Under the two-factor authentication find the trusted
phone numbers heading. Find the edit button then double tap. Swipe until you
hear add trusted phone number if you don't have one already.
