So, I realize we are mostly talking about the Orbit, but I wondered what ever happened with the Braille Me. I really liked the looks of it but only got a short chance to play with them both. Yes it can be used as a stand alone notetaker. The interesting part of this function is there is two modes for the Brailliant A. Bluetooth mode - this is when the device is connected to the iPhone or iPad. This will allow you to use the Braille display to control every aspect of the I Device. So you could use the iDevice and another app for note taking tasks. B. Offline mode - This allows you to use the device as a stand alone notetaker. There is a simple interface to navigate files, and there is a clock and stop watch in this mode as well. Note - To switch between these modes there is a physical switch on the back of the device. To sync the notes that have been taken with the notetaker functions you will have to flip the switch on the back of the device to bluetooth mode and the braille display will sync with the companion app on your iOS device. You must be signed in with an iCloud account or Gmail account to have it sync. If you are signed in with your iCloud account it will sync notes with the Notes application that is now on all of Apple's operating systems. You then can edit, print or view them from your iPad, iPhone and Mac. It’s a really cool feature.
