I have had this happen before IOS 12 so it is not that new either. Sometimes it even happens when just adding a new contact in the contact list. I just learned to live with it. LOL! Marie

Just now I tested it and when I first tap on Create New Contact the first name field had focus and was in editing mode, the keyboard was on the screen but when I typed something I got the bong sound. However, when I double tapped on the last name field I was able to enter text just fine and then going back to first name I had no issues, either. So, it is possible there is a bit of an issue here, but I wouldn’t exactly call it the first “tramendous ios12 bug”, it certainly not the first iOS 12 bug and it’s not exactly tramendous, either.
