If Best Buy is officially doing this battery replacement then I doubt it will
void any warranty. For most this is a mute point anyways since mostly people
who do the battery replacement at this point are people with an iPhone 6/6
Plus, 6S/6S Plus or SE.
The SE was the last one to be released in I think April of 2016 so unless you
bought one of these devices brandnew and with Apple Care Plus late in 2016 or
some time last year would there still be warranty.
Even the iPhone 7 if it was bought a month or two after its release in
September 2016 would be out of warranty by now even with Apple Care Plus and
without Apple Care Plus the 8/8 Plus phones from the fall of 2017 are now out
of warranty.
Of course if you bought the phone only a year ago chances are you won’t need to
have the battery replaced yet and it is my understanding that Apple won’t just
replace the battery because you want to, it has to have degraded to a certain
point before you qualify.
Also, keep in mind that unless they extend the program, the $29.99 US ($34.99
Canadian) battery replaceme nt program ends on December 31, in just over 2
months.

Sieghard

Mike,
I’m not Sieghard, but according to Apple’s info that I could find, the wireless
carrier is not participating, you need to deal directly with Apple.
I would call Apple and make sure your phone is eligible for the battery
replacement program and make arrangements through them directly.
I do not know if Apple Accessibility can help, but I like to start with them,

If not, they can direct you to the right folks, probably the main apple number…

Hi Sieghard,

My wife & I have 2 year old SE iPhones. If we want to take advantage of the
Apple battery replacement program do we just take our phones back to the
Verizon store where they were purchased to get the batteries replaced there?
Thanks much.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Subject: Keyboard button to switch languages and general thoughts on upgrading
and iPhone pricing

Hi Mary,

I started a new post here since “I am unable to do anything with my iPhone”
wasn’t really an appropriate subject any more. Anyhow, here it goes:

I still have my 6S Plus. My wife has a 6S and for us the keyboard button is
where it has always been.
We are not buying new iPhones for at least a year and quite possible two and
here is our reasoning:
we decided to take advantage of Apple’s battery replacement program so both of
our phones have new batteries and especially now with iOS 12 they run great.
Our 6S generation phones will still get iOS 13 for sure which means we are good
for at least 2 more years since iOS 14 won’t come out until the fall of 2020.
Given the high cost of cell phone plans in Canada and the relative lack of
competition we got lucky since we were able to get on a plan for $49 a month
which gives us unlimited calling, texting and 6 Gb of data, but we do need our
own unlocked phones for this. We decided that there are other things in life we
want to spend our hard-earned money on apart from a new $1,200 or 1,500 cell
phone every year or two and that is what many of the new phones cost in
canadian Dollars by the time we add taxes and so on. The top of the line iPhone
XS Max with 512 Gb of data is in fact $1,999 Canadian, here in British Columbia
we have 12% taxes so with tax that would be $2,238.88 and that’s not even
including Apple Care Plus which for the XS and XS Max is another $249.
Even if we bought the XR with 64GB that is $1,029 + taxes so approx. $1,152
with taxes, for the two of us that would be just over $2,300 and with Apple
Care Plus which for that phone is $199 it would add another $448 including
taxes, a total bill of $2,750. Then of course we would think that since we
don’t replace our phones all that often we should probably go for the 128Gb
model which is only $70 Canadian more, $1,099 instead of $1,029 so add another
$156 including taxes and we are now at a bit over $2,900. Then we would both
need new cases, we would of course want to take advantage of wireless charging
at least on our side tables in the bedroom so we could listen with headset
while the phone charges, say another $150 in accessories for the two of us and
we are looking at well over $3,000.
If we wanted to get the XS with 256GB and Apple Care Plus that would mean
$1,589 Canadian for the phone + $249 for Apple Care Plus, a total of $1,838 and
with taxes $2,058.
For the two of us that would mean $ 4117.12, again no accessories included.
We both work at my retail store and I could justify my own phone for sure to be
paid by the business and possibly my wife’s phone could be partially paid by
the business, but even having that option I just can’t justify a new phone
after 2 or 3 years. Given the quality of iPhones and the maturity of all the
high-end phones nowadays there simply is no reason for me why I should not have
a phone for at least 4 and more likely 5 or 6 years just like a computer. If
you don’t constantly drop your phone and are just a little careful with it this
is certainly what many people do, I know several people who are all
professionals and make good money and that is what they do. If somebody wants
to pay a lot of money every month to essentially lease their phone and trade it
in every year that is their business, but anybody who does the math can figure
out that if you buy your phone for the retail price and sign up for a lower
cost plan from an MVNO and keep the phone for 5 years you save a lot of money.
As for features, yes, wireless charging is neat, Face Id to me sounds like a
good idea since it’s been shown to be more secure and more reliable than Touch
Id, I personally have no special attachment to the 3.5mm audio jack and the
better camera and faster processor don’t do much for me in real life and
day-to-day use of the phone. Take those away and there isn’t much which makes
me want to have an iPhone 10XR, XS or XS Max.

Regards,
Sieghard
