Janet, if you still have trouble with the home gesture, if you have a
bluetooth keyboard pared up to your phone you could do it on the keyboard.

Try doing the Home gesture again; it should scan again. You can also lock
and then unlock the screen.

If you completely power down your phone you will have to enter your code
then after that you can use Face ID.
