Perhaps there is an ICE indicator in the nickname field. Go into the contact, hit edit, and then scroll through and see what if anything is written for nickname. If there is no nickname, then you can find the add field item, choose nickname, and then write her first name. I have my wife set as the emergency contact, and when I get iMessages from her, it either shows her full name or the nickname that I filled in.
