Hello List: After meeting Sieghard a few years ago on this list and talking with him by phone my wife and I finally got to meet him in toronto earlier this week.
My opinion of Sieghard was already a tall one because of his tremendous contribution to this list and his broad business and technical knowledge while chatting with him by phone. Let’s just say we had an enthusiastic lunch with him and his lovely Philippino wife Jackie which all enhanced our friendship. I also agree that having my IPhone 8 for a week now, it is very snappy and smooth. I would love to hear anyone’s case suggestions for the Iphone 8 and where you ordered them from. As a Canadian from Newfoundland I came away from the show today feeling very proud of our Country and how Gander made hosting folks from many corners of the world a fun time. I’m sure some of those folks hadn’t heard or seen anyone from Africa previously to that experience. I bet it broadened their minds on how all folks can be the same when a crises begins. We absolutely loved the show and the music was incredible. Thanks moderator for allowing us to inject a little personal human content into the list and now our friendship will forge ahead because of this list. Best Regards….Reg From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2018 12:44 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: First thoughts on our new iPhone 8 Hi, After returning from a week in Toronto where my wife and I attended a trade fare and visited with a friend of mine for a few days we returned last night and found our new iPhone 8's which arrived during our absence. Using my iPhone 6S Plus to set up the iPhone 8 worked flawlessly, I was able to scan the code and all the settings including Wi-Fi password and the credit cards I had set up for Apple Pay got transferred. I only had to verify the cards by entering each card's 3-digit card verification code. Apart from that I did choose to set up as a new phone and spend about 6 hours downloading all my apps, putting them in the order I want, setting up folders and what is more, signing into all my home automation apps, my main bank app, the bank apps for my Visa and Mastercard, PayPal business, Facebook, Google, Audible including re-downloading my books and all the stuff I use. I must say setting up as a new phone if you are a fairly heavy user of the iPhone with all these type of apps is definitely a bit of a pain, but I usually find it is worth it with a brand-new phone. We also received the Mophie and Belkin wireless charging pads I ordered on Black Friday, my wife likes the Mophie one and I must say I probably would prefer it as well, but I'm not sure if I will send the Belkin back. The Mophie is quite noticeably smaller in diameter, has a bit of a softer coating and it comes with a wall charger and uses a Micro USB cable. The Belkin uses a proprietary AC adapter so should it for some reason fail it would be a lot harder to replace than a Micro USB cable. I also ordered two more less expensive wireless chargers from Amazon, one is a stand, I'll see how they work. Both the Belkin and Mophie work with a basic case on and seem to e not super picky as to how you put the phone on it as long as it is reasonably centred. Unfortunately we had a number of 6S cases and none of them work for the iPhone 8. They fit just fine, but the camera lens on the iPhone 6S is higher up in the corner of the phone and all the cases we have half cover the camera lens of the iPhone 8. Apart from this the phones are very snappy and definitely feel a bit more responsive than my wife's 6S and my 6S Plus, the virtual home button takes a little bit of getting used to, but it's fine and I like the fact that these phones are much more waterproof than my 6S Plus. Thanks, Reg and Kathy, for meeting us for lunch, you are lucky, Reg, my wife really wanted to run off with your new black lab. I hope you enjoy the show today, for reference, this refers to Reg Sullivan who is on this list, going to see the musical Come from Away together with his wife today. Apart from my friend driving us to Niagara Falls, my wife and I went to see this musical on Sunday and if anybody has a chance to go I can only recommend it, it's an awesome show. The topic is 9 11, but not the New Yor tragedy, this is about the town of Gander, Newfoundland, Canada which has a population of a little over 9,000 and during this attack on New York 38 large planes were forced to land there and about 7,000 people had to be sheltered and fed there for 3 days. It's a story of loss but also of incredible generosity, resilience and love.
