Have you played with the customizations the iPhone offers for people like you who may have difficulties as you describe them?

I have Parkinson’s Disease and, while it is not severe (and my docs do not think it will be), I have come to appreciate just how much subtle motor control It takes to use the iPhone touch screen. The one thing I have had to give up because of Parkinson’s that made me sad is using a slate and stylus, which is something I used to do daily with considerable speed and accuracy... in fact, that was the impetus that sent me to the neurologist. I also have occasional difficulty controlling how many times I tap something,be it the iPhone screen or my Victor when I enter the title of a book with that cockamainey texting system it uses. I am using a Bluetooth keyboard to type this message which, as indicated by its length, presents no problem for me. It is the subtle control needed to punch dot 4 instead of 1 with a stylus, or to double tap on the phone that is challenging. When you are creating the contact, put in the bank’s phone number. After the number, put in a few commas then type in whatever you would normally put in after the bank’s phone system answers. For example, if you normally put in your account number then press pound, put in pen, press pound again, you would put in the following as the phone number: Bank phone number,,,accountnumber#,,,yourpen# You put in the comma by double-tapping on Shift then finding comma. You need to do this for each comma. With inputting the numbers from the screen, you would need to be real quick for it to work, and some of you might be quicker than me at doing that. ----- Original Message ----- From: Angie Nutt<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 04, 2019 3:36 AM Subject: Re: Using Your iPhone Without a Touchscreen In my job I come across plenty of people who have either tried and don’t like the touch screen or have tried and just can’t get on with it. While I personally use the touch screen most of the time I can appreciate why buttons are useful as in making phone calls and I would probably find it quicker but I don’t use my iPhone as an actual phone that often. I am of course referring to numbers not in contacts being quicker to type on a hardware keyboard. I also know quite a few who really loved their original RIVo and those who have the RIVO 2 seem to feel the same. Personally, I just couldn’t get my head round it; it just isn’t for me. I understand that there might be a few cases where a person for whatever reason can't touch the phone, e.g. if they are quadriplegic, have no hands etc. Apple and now Google have put a lot of very smart people to work to come up with this incredible way to make touchscreen devices extremely accessible, apps like Flicktype make typing very efficient with a bit of practice yet some people still think they are better off trying to avoid touching that screen as much as possible. Maybe I miss something here, but I just don't get it.
