The question is why would you want to lock your phone when you are on a call?
If you hold your phone to your ear and try to lock it, do you remove it from
your ear? If so that would explain why it goes to speaker, as soon as the
proximity sensor near the earpiece senses it is not close to anything it
switches to speakerphone.
Anyways, it's perfectly OK to ignore your phone while you are on a call,
chances are it may lock automatically after a while anyways.

Subject: Can’t seem to lock my phone when on a call

Hello everyone,

My subject says it all. I can not seem to lock my phone, when on a call. I am
using an iPhone XR, with the latest update.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
If so, is there anything that can be done about it? I assume not. But I figured
I would ask.
I can lock my phone when on a call, using my Bluetooth ear piece. But when on a
call, holding the phone to my ear, it can’t be done. If I try to do this, my
phone then goes to speaker.
Why could this be happening?

Thank you,

Terri
