Hi List,

I've been attempting to research syncing my iPhone contacts and calendars
using Google but I'm not totally clear that what I've found will do exactly
what I want. I've purchased an Android Moto X4 phone to play with and want
to get my iPhone contacts and calendars to my Google account and my Android
phone. You should know that I've pretty much maintained my contacts and
calendars on my Windows 7 computer using Outlook 2010. I use iTunes to sync
my designated contact group and calendar to my iPhone 8 and that has worked
great since inception. I've never synced my contacts or calendars to iCloud
for frear of messing things up.

I found some Google articles discussing getting contacts and calendars from
the iPhone to Android but these read more like a one-time transfer as
opposed to a sync that would keep the two devices containing the same items
whenever anything changes in the future. I really don't care whether I do
this using my iPhone or my computer but it would be nice if the route I
choose allows me to sync both contacts and calendars. I checked out an app
that had high marks for syncing contacts between the iPhone and a Google
account but it required a yearly subscription although at a reasonable
price. It was rated high and I'm listing it below:

Contacts Sync for Google Gmail:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/contacts-sync-for-google-gmail/id454390333?m
t=8

The Contacts Sync for Google app doesn't seem to handle calendars which is
why I'm exploring other alternatives.

When doing a Google search, I found the following summary list which seems
to be right on poin:

You can sync Google Calendar with the Calendar app that comes on your iPhone
or iPad.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open your Settings.

2. Tap Accounts & Passwords.

3. Tap Add account and then Google.

4. Enter your email address and then Next.

5. Enter your password. If you don't have the latest operating system and
you use 2-Step Verification, enter an app password instead of your regular
password.

6. Tap Next.

7. Emails, contacts, and calendar events will now sync directly with your
Google Account. To sync only your calendar, turn off the other services.

8. Open the Calendar app on your iPhone to see your Google Calendar
events.

To sync with an existing account, tap the account and turn on Calendars.

The above sounds simple but it came from an article titled "See Google
Calendar events on Apple Calendar: from this website:

=en> &hl=en

I'm just being extremely cautious since presently my iPhone contains all my
contacts and calendar events but my Google account contains nothing and I
want to ensure that I choose wisely in getting my two devices synced. And I
want them to be synced so they stay together going forward.

I'd appreciate any comments from those much smarter than I on the list who
don't mind reviewing what I've posted above in order to guide me or better
yet who have actually done what I'm trying and can speak from experience.

Thanks in advance.
