I haven’t found a way to solve the problem. I’ve searched high and low in
Facebook settings and can’t find anything that will let me turn this behavior
off. So, the only thing that I can do is to continue typing until the contact
suggestion disappears, or move focus away from the edit field and return focus
and resume typing.
I may be wrong, but I suspect that many sighted users simply ignore the contact
suggestions and forge ahead until their post is finished and this really isn’t
an issue for them. But for us VoiceOver users it’s a royal pain in the butt.
Sometimes I get so annoyed with the issue that I wish that a Facebook developer
was handy so that I could follow my own contact suggestion: my fist, in contact
with his face. Since that won’t happen any time soon, perhaps a scathing
negative review in the app store is in order. Anybody want to join me?
