Anthony, you did not say what kind of swipe you are doing to go "up or down." If you swipe or flick one finger to the right, it should keep going from one contact to the next. That is, unless you also have a huge font set. Then, a three finger swipe up will scroll to the next screen. Also, if you touch with one finger on the far right edge of the screen, you should hear "table index." Once you do, flick down with one finger and it will move letter by letter. If you did change the group, just double tap on the group button, and select everything. All iCloud contacts, might be all you need to select with a one finger double tap. If you have tapped the head and changed the group from iCloud or whatever you might have been using to some group that only has a few people in it that would cause your problem.
