Here are 2 default settings in Do Not Disturb which can contribute to a call or a notification to come through: Silence (this is a heading under Settings > Do Not Disturb) and the options are: Always While iPhone is locked - this is the default This means that if "While iPhone is locked" is selected calls and notifications come through if you are using the phone, iOS assumes that if the phone is unlocked you are using the phone hence it's OK for calls and notifications to come through. If you don't want that double tap on "Always". Phone (this is another heading) and you also have 2 options here: Allow calls from: Favourites Right underneath this it says: When on Do Not Disturb allow incoming calls from your Favourites Therefore, if anybody calls you whom you previously added to your Favorites list then if they call while Do Not Disturb is on then their call will ring through and Do Not Disturb is ignored. If you double tap on this you have 3 options to choose from: Everyone No One Favorites So, if you don't want any calls while Do Not Disturb is on you should set this to "No One". The second option under the phone heading is "Repeated Calls" and again this is On by default. The explanation below this option is self-explanatory: A second call from the same person within 3 minutes will not be silenced. This is meant to allow calls from somebody who really is trying to reach you, again, turn this Off if you don't want any calls to come through. The only other option/heading other than these is the Do Not Disturb while Driving, but I won't go into this. Now, even if you set "Allow calls from" to No One and if you set Repeated Calls to Off, there still is one more method to allow somebody's call to come through. For this you would go into your Contacts, find the person and tap the edit button at the top right of the screen, swipe down to "Ringtone" and double tap on it. Now at the top of the screen where you can choose a ringtone you have the following: Emergency Bypass, Switch Button, Off The explanation reads "Emergency bypass allows sounds and vibrations from this person even if Do Not Disturb is on". This gives you more precise control whom you allow to come through if you turn everything in Do Not Disturb settings off. If you really don't want to be at all disturbed on Sunday between say 10 and 3 PM then as somebody else suggested you should also flick the mute switch or alternatively you can simply turn your phone off.
