That always works perfectly for me, if you have a difficult time centering the phone on the page without reference you can lightly fold the page in half both ways, where the fold lines cross is the exact middle of the page. Put your phone on the page with the camera over the centre, then lift the phone straight up about a foot or a bit more until you hear the solid beep and hold still. Actually practicing with the Seeing AI app is even easier because it tells you if the left or top or right edge is not visible and once all edges are visible it tells you to hold still.
