I did come up with a way VDR can access files on an external thumb drive but it is pretty involved and is not fully accessible. It requires use of the Tonido service and connecting a thumb drive to a computer which is set up to use the Tonido service. Tonido Lite is a free download which allows you to create an account so all the files on your computer and any external drives attached to it can be accessed with your iPhone running the Tonido app. You can download the Tonido free cloud service from here: https://www.tonido.com/tonidodesktop_downloads/ You can navigate to your computer's URL set up when you create your account and have access to the files on that computer with the Tonido app. I found the app not totally accessible in that when I was attempting to access one of the files on the thumb drive attached to my computer in order to copy it to VDR, a popup box which Voiceover doesn't speak was used. Somehow I managed to fumble through it and successfully added an htm file on that attached thumb drive to VDR where I read it just fine. I'm not sure I'll be using this very often but it is nice to know that I can access my computer's files with my iPhone with Tonido. However, I find it is much easier just to place what I want to access in a Dropbox folder which is much easier to work with.
