It's a bit of a pain at first, but once you get the hang of it, it enables you to run virtually ALL of your old applications (I'd suggest *disabling* the XP system's access to the network ... that way you don't have to worry about unpatched security issues ... if you absolutely must re-enable networking ... snapshot the VM first, do what you need to do, disable networking (potentially saving whatever files you've changed, and restore to the previous snapshot ... that way any new badness is thrown away ;>).
