I will say it again, when I deleted the old backups, and did a fresh new back up, it still takes up the exact amount of storage! Photos quickly can eat up your 5 Gb and videos do so even faster so you can always turn off iCloud Photo Library if that is not important to me.If you have more storage on Dropbox or OneDrive you can also enable Camera Roll on either one of these services and your pictures will get backed up there. It's a simple thing to go to Settings > Your Account (at the very top) and then iCloud and to go through all the individual categories and to turn off the ones you don't want and leave the ones you want on. Many apps use iCloud to sync content between iOS devices which are signed in to the same Apple ID and of course if you ever get a new iPhone or, hopefully this won't happen, you loose your iPhone, it is stolen or damaged beyond repair, having an iCloud backup and your Photos backed up to iCloud, OneDrive or Dropbox will be a life saver since all you have to do is to restore your new phone from your iCloud backup. Yes, you can still use iTunes and a PC to back up your phone to the computer and you can do what is called an encrypted backup which backs up also passwords and such, but iCloud backups nowadays are just as good and it's not like in the old days when a PC backup included all your apps and such. The backup includes the information as to which apps you have and also your home screen layout, but even if you restore from a PC your apps are redownloaded from the app store and not restored from the PC. As a comment I do think Apple is pretty stingy when it comes to the 5Gb of free iCloud Storage. Considering how much an iPhone costs and how little they charge for their 50 Gb, I think they could at least up the 5Gb free limit to 10 or 15 Gb or maybe include the 50 Gb storage as a value-added item when people subscribe to Apple Music or other services Apple offers. Sort of like Microsoft giving people who pay for Office 365 1 Tb of OneDrive storage. If you consider what an Office 365 subscription includes at a cost which is the same or slightly less as an individual Apple Music subscription, it's a real bargain.
