The main question you have to ask yourself is whether you want security or not.
Yes, you an turn passcode off, but then if somebody stole your phone they have
full access, they could simply reset it and that is that.
If you want to use Touch Id you still have to have a passcode in case the Touch
Id doesn't work and also you must enter your passcode if you restart your
phone, the first time Touch Id won't work and your passcode is required.
Apart from that Touch Id I think works great and very reliably, just go to
Settings > Touch Id and Passcodes, enter your passcode to get into the category
and then set up Touch Id. After that you can use your fingerprint to unlock
your phone.

Subject: Re: question about changing the setting of entering my passcode when
turning on my phone

Josh:

After you set the passcode to the off position, the phone will ask you if you
are sure you want to do it. Then you will enter your passcode and confirm that
you want to turn it off.

I can't remember the order of things, but you need to complete the steps before
it is turned off permanently.

Hang in there!
