Hello Arlene, I think your questions have been answered but, as I am getting a little confused as to who has answered, what, I'm just going to reply.
The Apple Smart Keyboard is an extremely thin hardware keyboard that acts as a cover for iPad. This is to say, when it is placed on top of the display, the display turns off and the iPad locks. Also, unlike a, quote, standard hardware Bluetooth keyboard, quote, it does not need to be charged, as there is no battery nor does it need to be paired to iPad in order to function. The actual keyboard configuration mirrors that of a MacBook Air.
