I put businesses on the first name field, and haven't had problem yet. I do not
put them on the company line, because someone said Siri didn't do all that well
with them. I would put one on a company line, say, if I had Mary Smith's work
number. She has three jobs, so her mobile will do just fine.

Best regards,

Carolyn

SIRI is incredibly stupid when it comes to calling businesses whether in your
contacts or looking them up on the web.

I usually find that if you put the entire business name in the last name field
you have the best chance, but sometimes it’s hit and miss.

Then there are those times when I say “Siri, call my wife” and I get “You first
have to unlock your iPhone” and that happens also with other people in my
contacts, usually if I then bring up SIRI a second time and repeat the command
exactly as before it works fine.

When it comes to calling businesses which are not in my contacts I sometimes
can’t even believe what sort of logic is being used. For example, I asked for a
business the other day and just now can’t remember what it was, but it was a
chain or franchise and they have locations in most towns or cities. I live in a
small town in northwestern British Columbia with a population of about 6,000.
The next town which only has a population of about 3,000 is about 40 miles
away, then there is another which is even smaller and it’s about 40 miles the
other direction. After that a small city of about 12,000 people is about 120
miles away and the next larger city with a population of about 60,000 is about
250 miles. SIRI literally asked me if I wanted to call said business in all of
these places and some even further away, but not once did it ask if I wanted to
call the place which was a mile away from me and eventually it actually said
that this was all and there were no more. I then asked my Google Home Mini and
it promptly said “Calling so and so business” and it was exactly the right one
in my town, I mean, what the heck? One would think SIRI could do better after
having been in existence for 8 years. There are a few things SIRI does
extremely well, but as Keith said, is it so hard to get SIRI to first look
through the Contacts including the company field and use that information? I’d
really love to sit down with Tim Cook and demonstrate this and then ask him why
on earth SIRI is so stupid.

Subject: Do others still have trouble with Siri when asking to call someone
from Contacts?

Hi,

I am still having trouble with Siri finding businesses in my Contacts when
asking Siri to call a business.

For example, I have a business listed as Toppers Pizza. I ask Siri to call
Toppers Pizza, and Siri always says, I have found Toppers Pizza on 16th Street.
Is that the one you want? Clearly, this has come from a web search and not from
my Contacts.

I get the same response when I clear the business name from the Company field,
and place Toppers in the First Name field, and Pizza in the Last Name field.

This happens with most of the businesses in my Contacts.

Is this common place with Siri? If not, does anyone have suggestions for how I
can get Siri to work better with Contacts listings for businesses when asking
Siri to place a call?

Thanks in advance for any help or insights.

Keith
