Hi Kevin,

Writer only works with plain text files. There's markup you can use to create 
headings, bold text, and some other formatting. When you are done, you can use 
the Export option to choose another format to export to. That makes a copy in 
your chosen format, leaving the original plain text file in Writer. There's no 
need to specify a line length. Like most word processors, you simply put in a 
Return character when you want to start a new paragraph.
