Probably so, since it cannot know that this one unknown caller is important and you can't know which numbers to add to your contacts in advance.
That is why it is an option. In your case, and others, probably not a good thing. In my case, it is fantastic. Since they can leave a message I figure I will find out when I touch the phone icon and it says there are 1, 2, or whatever new items. I trust everyone is able to make their own choices and will make the one best for them.
