That has never worked for me, when this happens on my phone all sounds are gone 
and I mean "all", if I call the phone it doesn't ring or vibrate, if I activate 
SIRI I hear no tone or SIRI speaks o answers (my sighted wife confirms it's all 
there on the screen). 
Having said all this, I made at least 6 or 8 calls y yesterday and this hasn't 
once. This is after I tried a few calls as I said where I had a book playing 
and also after I did a couple of hard resets the day before when it did happen. 
It's a strange bug.

one way of  getting vo back I just tried. just activate Siri then it worked 
again.
