Subject: [External] RE: For Those Using the Business, Non-Apple Supported
Version of iTunes, an Update is Available

Hello Julian,

While you ask a simple enough question, I'm afraid that the answer is not
equally so.

First, the reason I use the business version of iTunes is because I choose to
have a full copy of every app on my iPhone stored in my iTunes library on my PC.

This is very useful especially when restoring a backup to a new device or even
the same device.

For example, not so long ago, my original 8 Plus gave up the proverbial ghost.
As a result, Apple gave me a new 8 Plus. I simply took the new phone,
connected it to my PC and restored it from a backup. Because I have full
copies of all of my favorite apps, even those no longer available in the App
Store, those apps were successfully installed on my new 8 Plus and all was well.

I relay all of this so that you will understand the following short answer to
your question, said answer being the following: The only way you can be
certain that apps, no longer available in the app store, can continue to be
installed on any of your devices is to make certain that you have a full copy
of said apps in your local iTunes library.

So, in iTunes for business, when you bring up the Apps area, if you see the
apps listed in your local library, then, all things being equal, you most
likely have a full copy stored locally. If you do not, then I'm afraid that
you will not be able to restore the app should your local device copy be lost
and the app in question is no longer available in the app store.

Of course, this is a general answer as I will not drill down any further on
this topic as there are simply too many variables to consider in order to
provide a truly comprehensive answer.

I'm certain that if you do some serious Googling, you will find out more on
this topic.

Good Luck,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thank you for this information, I am going to go and install this update on my
beloved Windows 7 PC. I have a question that maybe you can answer, how can I
make sure that when I do encrypted back ups to this version of iTunes that the
actual app files are being downloaded to my computer as opposed to just being
indexed. I want to make sure I don't lose apps such as money reader if I should
have to restore from this back up. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
