Hi, I've been working with someone in Apple Accessibility tech support on copying ringtones from a Mac to an iOS device running Catalina, and they sent me steps that work. I can't get the part of the directions involving selecting multiple tones at once to work, but copying one tone at a time works reliably using this method. I'm so glad there's a way to do this without Garage Band! Here are the steps:
1) Open two Finder windows: one containing the General tab of an iOS device and one with a folder containing a ringtone file (MPEG-4 audio file with .m4r file extension). 2) Move the VoiceOver cursor to the ringtone file. To install more than one ringtone, use VO-Command-Return to select each of the ringtones before proceeding to the next step. 3) Press VO-Command-fn-5 to move the mouse pointer to the VoiceOver cursor's location. 4) Press VO-Command-Shift-Space to click and hold the mouse button (to start dragging). 5) Use Window Chooser (VO-fn-2-2) to switch to the Finder window that the iOS device is in. 6) Move the VoiceOver cursor to "General, scroll area". 7) Press VO-Command-Shift-Space to release the mouse button (to drop the files in this location).
