Well, it used to be that if you found a day on that month view, you could double tap and hold, and bring up a new event for that date. While you can still do that, you cannot be sure that the click with no information is the right date. So, to me, there is a loss of accessibility. Not to mention that I sure as hell don't need the weather in my calendar. I have apps for that. If I wanted a calendar that only showed me days with events I would use the native calendar in the list view.
