Alex, why doesn't your friend use 7zip to make regular zip files. That's what I do whenever I zip audio books into zip files for either voice dream reader or NLS books for the files app then transfer them to bard mobile. I can't think of the last time I used 7zip to make an actual .7z file. I've used 7zip on my computer for years with no issues.
