If that is so theoretically the actual Apple Id could be something else as long as there is an email address associated, but that is not the case, it has to be an actual valid email address. I couldn't just make my Apple Id "Sieghard 4857" and have my email address, [email protected], associated to this, the Apple Id actually has to be [email protected] or whatever other email address I choose to use.
