Even if 5G iPhones were available now, carriers are not meaningfully deploying it yet. In my neighborhood on the north side of Chicago, construction crews are digging trenches in the street to lay new fiber optic cable for Verizon for 5G service. Apparently, fiber optic cables need to be connected to cell towers for the lightning fast data speeds. My alderman says Verizon should finish this week.
