Hi Kawal,

I think you may just not have seen this because your Apple Id was always
required for iMessage to work just as it is required for Facetime to work.
iMessages are sent through Apple's servers and your Apple Id is necessary
for them to be routed correctly. This has nothing to do with you adding an
email address, you could have an email different from your Apple Id added
which means somebody with an iPod Touch or an iPad which does not have a
phone number can send you an iMessage to your email address, but still you
always do have to have your Apple Id entered and this has been the case from
day 1 when iMessage became available as a new iOS 5 feature.

Regards,
Sieghard

My phone number is selected here, in the receive, and next to that my Icloud
ID which is [email protected]. It looks as if you have to have that ID in
there even though it's not sending from that from my I phone, or the I
Messaging isn't going to work. Before, when I messaging started out, all
there was, was my Mobile number and it didn't matter if my present Icloud ID
(My e-mail which I use) was in there or not.

Thank you Sieghard for looking in to this.

Kawal.
