8 dot computer braille has enough dots to create a braille symbol for every
ASCII value. Therefore, it is not relational like grade I or II braille. When I
say relational, I mean some dot configurations meanings are only understood
when the entire word is considered. For example: the capital letter symbol, dot
6, is not used as such in computer braille. Instead, dot 7, added to a letter,
indicates the uppercase form of that letter. Dot 6 is the comma in computer
braille. Probably the best example would be numbers. In computer braille, all
numbers are the lower equivalents of their letter counterparts. So, dot 2 is
the number 1, dots 2 3 is 2, dots 2 5 is 3, dots 2 5 6 is 4, Etc. I like
computer braille because there is no ambiguity and no room for error in
translation symbology.
