unless you purchase it, from someone who hasn't updated their phone.
and if that is the case, then when you set up the phone, with your account,
then you will have to update.

This isn't correct. If you turn automatic updates off and at setup tell it
to update manually you should be able to avoid it.

The advantage to the 8 is I believe it comes with iOS 12 and if you
find iOS 13 buggy you don't have to upgrade it. also the storage size
