One way to get all the familiarity of the Google app as well as Safari 
integration is, as others have said, to go into safari and type in 
www.google.com and when the web page opens, tap the Share button and select Add 
to Home Screen and when the box pops up, tap on Add at top right. And now you 
have an icon which looks just like the Google app but is in fact a shortcut to 
a Safari web page.
