Hi,

Well I'll answer my own question. So far research seems to indicate that 
the ability to copy or save audio from iMessages broke long about iOS12. As 
such why Apple leaves the options of save and copy in there is beyond the 
ability of my pea brain to figure out this day. But if one really wants or 
needs to save such audio you can select the contain message double tap more 
and then forward it to your email address by putting that address in the to 
field. I hope that helps someone if they had the same question too.
